CSA

What is it?
CSA stands for ‘Community Supported Agriculture’ and is a tool that allows small farmers to connect with and sell directly to their customers. Joining a CSA is about eating seasonally, broadening your palate and learning about food and farming. A CSA share is the ideal way to keep your family’s refrigerator stocked with fresh vegetables throughout the growing season. Participation offers flexibility for busy people who want to eat both healthy and locally and can also provide an opportunity to connect with local food systems and farms.

When is it?
The CSA program is available for either 20 or 24 week enrollment. The 20 week share begins the 3rd week of June and goes through the end of October.  The 24 week share also begins the 3rd week of June but goes into late November and includes many fall favorites like brussels sprouts, frost sweetened carrots and kale, cured sweet potatoes and winter squash. See the pricing section below for specific dates for the 2022 season.

What You Can Expect?
Our farm members can expect the freshest, premium quality produce that money can buy.  At Second Spring Farm, our shares are designed to focus primarily on popular staple vegetables that one would usually pick up in the grocery store, with the occasional unique or less common item we feel shareholders will enjoy experimenting with. Share boxes are compiled with the hope that nothing offered will go unused, you won’t find boxes comprised of unusual or difficult to utilize produce.

Examples of What Shareholders May See Throughout the Season:
Early Summer: spinach, lettuce, radishes, green onions, beets, kale, sugar snap peas, lettuce, broccoli, new potatoes, parsley, radishes, and swiss chard.

Late Summer: beans, tomatoes, cilantro, red peppers, watermelon, lettuce, sweet onions, green beans, arugula, cantaloupe, heirloom tomatoes, beets, cherry tomatoes

Fall/Early Winter: sweet potatoes, cauliflower, parsnips, spinach, yellow/red onions, shallots, carrots, rutabagas, brussels sprouts, garlic, broccoli, parsley, and winter squash
